Within the comfortable environment of our facial plastic surgery practice is located a fully-accredited surgical center which is specifically designed to meet our patients’ unique requirements for safety and desires for privacy. Under the direction of Dr. Frank Fechner and with the support of experienced anesthesia and nursing team, we are committed to providing excellence in out-patient care for facial plastic surgery.
The full accreditation by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) ensures that our office-based surgical center adheres to the highest standards in modern outpatient surgery. Today, outpatient surgery in a non-hospital setting has become not only accepted but it has grown for many to be the preferred choice.
The AAAHC Certificate of Accreditation is a symbol to others that an office-based surgery center has demonstrated its commitment to providing high-quality care by measuring up to the AAAHC’s highest standards. Accreditation is largely a voluntary process through which ambulatory health care organizations such as office-based surgery centers are able to measure their performance and quality of services against nationally recognized standards.
The accreditation process involves a self-assessment by the organization and a thorough on-site review by the Accreditation Association’s volunteer expert surveyors. The self-analysis, peer review and consultation ultimately help an organization improve its care and services.
The AAAHC Certificate of Accreditation sends a signal of confidence to the community it serves and increases an organization’s competitive edge in the health care marketplace. In addition, an office-based surgical center’s accreditation may satisfy certain regulatory requirements for licensure or certification. In fact, the AAAHC has been granted “deemed status” to survey ambulatory surgery centers for Medicare by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). A list of AAAHC accredited centers can be found on the Web under www.aaahc.org.
If you don’t see your center listed, you should ask about their accreditation status. They may be accredited by another organization or may have chosen to not undergo any accreditation process.
The AAAHC standards, revised and published annually in the AAAHC Accreditation Handbook, describe the organizational characteristics that the AAAHC believes to be essential to high-quality patient care. The core standards include Rights of Patients, Governance, Administration, Quality of Care, Quality Management and Improvement, Clinical Records and Health Information, and Facilities and Environment.
In addition, the organization must meet all applicable adjunct standards, depending on the specific services provided. Individuals representing the highest levels of achievement in clinical practice and health care management have developed the standards over a period of almost 30 years. The standards are by definition dynamic and reflect the evolving changes in medicine, health care and technology.
Anesthesia for facial plastic surgery procedures is chosen using safe and reliable methods. “Twilight sleep” using I.V. sedatives is provided by a highly trained board certified anesthesiologist who will monitor you throughout the entire procedure. This state-of-the-art anesthesia method facial cosmetic surgery avoids some of the common side effects that are associated with general anesthesia.
Preparation for Surgery starts a minimum of two weeks before your procedure. A pre-operative visit is usually scheduled about 14 days prior to your scheduled procedure. During this visit, Dr. Fechner will review goals of the chosen procedures and you will have ample time for questions.
You will also receive written care instructions for before and after the procedure. Some routine laboratory test may be necessary and will be ordered. In addition, you will receive prescriptions tailored to your specific needs.
Recovery time varies but is routinely shorter than for general anesthesia. Your companion should be a competent adult and he/she will stay with you for the first night. You will be monitored in our facility for a relatively short while and the after care will be reviewed again with you and your companion. Once you meet all criteria for a safe discharge, you will return to the comfort of your home or a local hotel. If you do not have somebody available for the first night, our office will arrange a private care provider for you.

On behalf of the entire team at Fechner MD Plastic Surgery & Medical Spa, we would like to take a moment to say thank you again for your loyalty and support during this unprecedented time. The past several months have been unlike anything we've ever experienced, and we're working hard to evolve so that we can continue to provide you with the patient experience you have come to expect from our practice.
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 worldwide pandemic, Fechner MD Plastic Surgery & Medical Spa has taken extreme precautionary measures, in addition to following the most up to date CDC recommendations and state guidelines to maximize the health and safety of our patients, staff and facility. Our surgical center and medical spa remain committed to providing the best patient care, and we are actively working to take all necessary precautions as we plan to safely re-open our practice. Please help us continue to protect the health and well-being of our patients and workplace by cooperating with all of our precautionary measures and protocols against COVID-19 at your next appointment, or as you plan for your surgery.
As a fully accredited surgical facility, Fechner MD has always observed the highest level of safety and sanitation. In fact, as a surgeon, Dr. Fechner is an expert in infection control. We want to ensure that we are doing everything possible for our patients to safely return for surgical and medical spa treatments alike.
The upgraded work flow and safety protocols we have implemented at Fechner MD far exceed those being recommended by any government agency.
Fechner MD will adhere to all local, state, and government mandates. We expect to cautiously resume medical spa and injectable treatments during Phase 2 of the Massachusetts phased reopening. We are awaiting a definitive date from Governor Baker. Cosmetic surgery is expected to resume during Phase 3 of Governor Baker’s plan. We ask for your patience and understanding as our staff is working diligently to reschedule all surgeries and procedures affected by our closure. Please understand that in order to open and adhere to Massachusetts guidelines, we will need to limit the number of staff and patients we have in our building and extend the time between patient appointments in order to sanitize rooms. This means we will have fewer available openings for procedures. In order to maximize our provider appointments, we will continue to hold consultations virtually rather than in person, with a few exceptions (body contouring, Instalift, vein treatments).
We thank you in advance for your patience throughout this time, and we look forward to seeing you here again as we begin to resume business operations. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Fechner MD Plastic Surgery & Medical Spa at (508) 754-4000 and our team will gladly assist you. Thank you!
